Heartland is a horse farm in the hills of Virginia. Amy and her family lovingly care for scared and abused horses, helping them heal from their past scars and regain their trust in people. After the open house at Heartland, Amy no longer has to worry about a lack of customers. Fortunately, there's a new stable hand, Ben Stillman. His aunt Lisa wants him to learn Heartland's techniques so she can use them at her large Arabian stud farm, Fairfield. Ben seems like a nice guy who loves horses. But the way he prepares his show jumper, Red, for competitions goes against everything Amy and Ty believe in. They want Ben to adopt Heartland's techniques, but Ben refuses. Ty, in particular, is becoming increasingly angry about this. It seems Amy will have to choose between the two boys.
